3rd Appointment & New Appointment

Yesterday was my 3rd appointment (not 3rd dates!) with Dr Michael, Respiratory Physician. Is confirm that it was not Asthma attack. I was referred to Dr Selva, ENT Specialist but he was busy, I went to see him this morning.

Dr Selva checked my nose & was all blocked (started to feel pain on my face). He spray some medicine & asked me to wait outside. After 5 mins, I was asked to return to his office & was scoped. Yuks! The feeling was not good even though the scope was such a small tube (slightly bigger than the yogurt drinks straw). I can feel pain when the scope was inserted deeper into my nasal. Then he push the scope deeper into my throat to check my voice box.

At that time, I really cannot "tahan" (stand). My right eyes tears just rolled down automatically (scoping my right nose). When it reaches my throat, I become nausea plus pain. The doctor asked me to relax & breathe. How to relax & breathe with the tube itching your throat! Lucky, it was over within minuets.

Then he scope my left nasal. Left side was better then right as after he has sprayed the medicine earlier, my left side can breathe easily. Secondly, he doesn't go through my throat. Then he sent me for a CT Scan to check if is sinusitis.

My first CT Scan Experience..............

As I laid down, I was asked to relax, adjusted my head a bit & my head was strapped. I was asked to close my eyes & then I heard the sound rooooommmm......& I can feel the so call "bed" moved inside. Then I heard an other sound like "Ding"......as the "bed" moves further inside (slowly), there is another "Ding"...........which I wasn't sure how many "Dings". Then I feel the bed moving out (which I thought the scan was finished).

Somehow, the "bed" stopped. Then it moves back inside & stopped. Then I can feel the bed started to move inside, outside, like a swing. When the process has finished & the guy told me to open my eyes, when I walked, I feel like I was still swinging.......slightly dizzy too.

Then I waited for my report (X-Ray images) & took it back to the ENT doctor. I asked the doctor is it because of my nose which causes the symptoms of Asthma & he nodded his head. Wow! What a relief!

I was asked to continue with Symbicort (until I finish it as it is for my lungs), Xyzal, Nasonex & was given one extra nasal spray called Afrin (lucky not a steroid bit contains of Oxymetazoline) but the leaflet stated not to use longer than 3 days but the doctor asked me to see in in 2 weeks.

I called the Hospital, Pharmacy & asked if the medicine is for 2 weeks usage or for 3 - 5 days prescription? I was told that is for 2 weeks. Guess I've to call the doctor again tomorrow.

So, readers out there, whatever medicine given to you, please read the leaflets or go through the net & check out your medicine.

Presbyopia

I used to have short sighted plus Astigmatism but I hardly wear my glasses. My eyes sight for each eye is about 125 but at the age of 35+, I was detected to have Presbyopia. How was it detected? Well, I went to make a new glasses because I wanted to watch my Anime which is in Japanese Language and with English subtitle.

Anxiously, I took it back to my office & wear it but I couldn't see it clearly (blurr vision) and feel dizzy. Then I took my glasses back to the shop (our family friends shop) to double check the power. BBK, the shop owner recheck my eye sight & the power was correct. Wearing it & seeing far object, no problem with it.

Then BBK check my Presbyopia. He couldn't believe as I was too young to get Presbyopia (only 35+ years old at that time). No wonder I can't read books for a long time. I feel like I wanted to vomit, my eyes were very stress & I see all words jumble up. I can only read for the maximum, 1 page.

In fact when I see far, I was still okey (without glasses) but if you ask me to read the car plate in front of me, I can only guess the plate number (all blurr!). However, I can still maintain my power and I don't feel head ache at all for the past 9 - 10 years (touch wood). I only need a spectacle when I drive at night (for long distance). I think is the wolf berries that helps a lot. Cheers!

First Aid Training - Part 3

Today, we learn about Nervous System, Cardiovascular Disorder, How to handle Convulsions/Fits, Epilepsy & Diabetic patients (basic), Burns & Scalds and Poisoning
Burns & Scalds is about the nine rules and also how do we categorise as 1st Degree, 2nd Degree & 3rd Degree Burns. What should we do if there is burn especially if is chemical burn. We were told to use water to to rinse off & take off all the clothes and also take off everything like rings or etc. Refer video

We also did our Fracture Practical today. If the leg got Fracture, how to bandage & if is the Thigh or the hand (hand totally cannot be bend) & etc. Take a look at the picture as we are totally not able to move at all (so tight).

First Aid Traning - Part 2

The next day, we learn about Circulatory Disorder like wounds (may types of wound) & bleeding (like internal or external bleeding), Shock, Fracture (Injuries to the Bone), Recovery Position, Choking & Handling & Transport (a patient).

If I didn't attend this First Aid Training, I really didn't know that there is such thing as Shock! Definition of Shock is a condition arising from stress or injury producing an insufficient supply blood to the brain & other vital organs.

Wounds also have many types as it may be clean cut wounds (Incised), Laceration (Skin all tear) & etc. Some wounds is with slight bleeding & some are severe. So we need to know how to handle different types of wound (in terms of dressing & bandage).

Bleeding were taught if is internal or external bleeding. We also learn Fracture plus Dislocation of a joint. We did the Fracture Bandage Practical today.

During the Recovery Position (Practical - pic left)) we really have lots of fun as we need to turn our partner and they do a lots of mischievous stuffs. Some small build guys/ladies have to turn a big size fella which is so hard for them.

Then we have to learn how to move the injured person (Handling & Transport) from a certain place. Frankly speaking, is not easy during this pratice as the person we carry was about 42kg - 46kg. The hardest to carry is the 3 handed seat as the person who only use one hand to whole the injured leg & the other is used as a seat. Really needs a lot of strength to support.

Lastly is Choking. Some of us need to try a few times as we must find the correct position before we can perform the pushing. Initially, we need to ask the vicitms to try to cough out. If he/she is not able to, then we will help them by asking them to lean in front slightly using on hand to support the front (put your hand at the chest) while the other hand try to hit his/her back, 4 times. If still cannot, then we will have to do as the video shows (below).

First Aid Training

My company has sent me for a 3 days First Aid Kit course. The course include Bandaging, Fracture, CPR, Recovery Position, Transport & Choking. Yesterday, we learn all about bandaging, in terms of Theory & Practical.

Bandaging itself has so many types but first, we have to learn how to tie the reef knots, which is a must as all bandages uses the reef knots. In order to start off the bandage, we were given a Triangular Bandage (upper left). We learn how to fold the triangle bandage as there are two types of folding which is the Broad & Narrow Bandage (different usage) and also the Ring Pad/Crescent Shaped Cotton Pads which is used when a sharp object poked into your body

Is fun when we do the physical bandage but we always mixed up the Arm Sling (below left) & the Elevation sling (pic right). We like the most is the Head/Scalp Bandage as all of us look so cute, like wearing a scarf.

The rest are all Theory where we learn about the basic things like the Human Body. The Circulatory System, Respiratory System & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or in short CPR (practical was done today).

Will continue later of what I have learn. Just to share my experience as I really learn a lot today.

Required Medical Leave

I think I really have to take sometime off as I've yet to recover. Still having my cough & my sound wasn't clear. Can't even sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".

My boss asked me to go to Penang & look for a Specialist to get a second opinion & I told my doctor when I went for my medical check up yesterday. Dr Kathleen recommended Dr Michael, Respiratory Physician.

Since I still have inflammatory & have been coughing for so long, he has no choice but to start me off with Steroid, Prednisolone. I need to take 6 tablets in a day for 5 days & the 6th day, cut down to 3 tablets/day.

I told Dr Michael that I have gastric problem & he has given me Nexium to prevent any gastric or heartburn. I really hope by the 5th day, my cough will go away as I cough till I vomit again (almost everyday).

After taking so high steroid (Prednisolone), I have to cut down my Symbicort inhaler to 2 puffs in the morning & 2 puffs at night. If required to puffs, then go for it. Lucky, 4 puffs can last my day. Dr Michael told me that Nasonex is good for my sinus (nose block) and should use it daily even though is a steroid as only 1 spray per nose & each spray is only 50ug which is very mild dosage. I need that plus Xyzal in order to stop my sinus not only now but also in the future.

All this started due to my sinus problem (rhinitis allergy) which I must have inhaler something and cause infections & least to asthma attack. So, readers out there, do take care of your health too.

Nebuliser

Since I can't breathe well nor have a good nite sleep, I have to visit the Hospital again. The doc asked me to go for the nebuliser. What other choice do I have? The worst part was after inhaling, my hands started to shake which is a side effect and I have to drive all the way home.

It was hard but I manage to. Nebuliser helped and I can sleep better on that night as it has loosen the phlegm. The doc requested me to stay at home & I was given another 3 days medical leaves till Friday.

Even though I was on medical leaves for a week, I was so weak then. I was like bed-ridden, staying in bed. Totally no TV at all for the first 4-5 days, imagine that! Only sleep & cough & medicines.

Asthma!

I only knew today that Asthma can strikes at any age and not only to children. My colleague, Jenny told me to consult the specialist as over the phone, she can heard that I'm wheezing, a sign of asthma.

I was told that I've bronchitis problem that trigger the asthma. Is called brochial asthma. I have to be treated using asthma medicine. I was given Symbicort (2 puff, 3 times a day), Piriton (for nite time as it causes drowsiness), Xyzal (Day time) and Nasonex (nasal spray as I've nose block). The doctor asked me to continue only the antibiotic, Amocla given by my previous doctor.

I was asked if I have any problem taking this Amocla as some have allergies. For me, it is okey. I have taken the Piriton aorund 9pm plus and as of now, 11pm, I'm still awake. Hehehe......

I really hope it won't strikes again. Otherwaise, I won't be escape from getting asthma.
